Parkinson’s voice therapy program by speech-language pathologist Jessica Ackerman, improving loud speech and communication through movement-based training.

Welcome & How to Use Speak Steady

Hi, I’m Jessica.  I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist with over two decades of experience working with people living with Parkinson’s. I created this program so that I can work directly with you, so let’s dive in together.

Welcome to Speak Steady!

What is the Program?

Speak Steady is a structured, science-based training program designed to strengthen:

- Voice loudness

- Breath support for speech

- Speech intelligibility (steady, clear, understandable speech)

- Confidence in conversation

- Everyday communication effectiveness (ordering in restaurants, talking on the phone)

It works by training breath, movement, and speech together, which is how the brain actually produces communication.

This is not traditional voice therapy and it’s not about forcing loudness.
It’s about retraining your nervous system (brain-breath-speech-voice connection) to support clearer, stronger speech.

How to Use This Program

If you are an individual doing this at home, you can simply follow along, making progress through each lesson.

- I recommend doing Speak Steady daily or a few times a week on your preferred schedule.
- There is no designated daily stopping point, so you are able to go at your own pace!

- Most people do best with 10-30 minutes per session. Simply stop when you reach your time and then resume on your next day.

If you are facilitating a group, you can package Speak Steady into an 8-10 session course, making progress through each lesson of 30/45/60 minutes, depending on your group. This was designed to be flexible and cater to all!

You can complete all sessions:

- Seated in a chair or wheelchair

- Standing with support

- At your own pace

If you ever feel tired, strained, or unsteady, pause, rest, and continue later. Your loud voice should feel supported, not forced.

Speak Steady will guide you through:
1️⃣ Educational Video and Printable Modules / Lessons
2️⃣ Speak Steady Essentials Toolkit and Daily Tracking Sheets to print or view on your screen
3️⃣Practice Videos
4️⃣Caregiver Support Guide to share with care partner
5️⃣PDF Resources to view on screen or print

You don’t need to complete everything at once. I will walk you through all of the above steps!
Consistency matters more than intensity.

Final Note

Progress with Parkinson’s communication comes from repetition, structure, and patience. This program gives you the framework - your job is simply to show up regularly.

I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s get started. ~Jess
