About Jessica Ackerman, MSCCC-SLP, RYT and Why Speak Steady Exists
Communication is life. When the voice weakens, connection weakens. My mission is to restore both.
I’ve spent my 24 year career as a Speech-Language Pathologist listening to people with Parkinson’s and their care partners describe the same heartbreak: it isn’t only the tremor or stiffness that changes their lives most deeply, it’s the loss of their voice, their clarity, and their ability to be understood. When communication fades, identity, confidence, and independence begin to fade with it.
I have been a devoted advocate, partner, therapist, friend, encourager, strategizer, creator, and builder, specializing in Parkinson’s for over two decades, and I witnessed a pattern that never sat right with me. Patients could perform well in therapy sessions, yet struggle to carry those gains into daily life. They were told to “speak louder,” but loudness alone wasn’t enough. The nervous system wasn’t being trained to support communication under real-world conditions.
I realized that communication, like movement, is a full-body, brain-driven system. Breath, voice, speech, posture, and functional movement must work in precise coordination for true carryover to happen. When this is lacking, speech becomes unintelligible and effortful. When integration is trained, communication becomes strong, stable, and automatic again.
That understanding reshaped my work. I began integrating evidence-based movement, motor learning, and neuroplasticity principles into speech therapy. The results were impactful. Stronger voices. Clearer speech. Greater confidence. And most importantly, real-world change that patients and families could feel immediately.
This is why I created Speak Steady.
Speak Steady is not a traditional voice program. It is a movement-integrated, neuroplasticity-driven communication system designed to restore vocal loudness, breath control, speech intelligibility, and confidence where it matters most: in everyday life.
Communication is not a luxury. It is how we connect, advocate, love, and remain visible in the world.
When people lose their voice, they lose more than sound, they lose presence.
My mission is to give that back.
Are you with me?
